Under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996, if you cannot get agreement from the adjoining owner for the building works you have planned, you will need a party wall surveyor to agree on a party wall award.
The party wall award is a legal document which says
- what work should happen
- how and when it will be carried out
- who will pay for which part and how much will be paid (including surveyor's fees)
You cannot act as your own surveyor.
